Functional
or DECORATIVE?

When considering a cupola, one of the first things to decide on is whether you need a decorative or functional style of cupola.

If adding visual interest is your only concern, choose a decorative cupola. To add light or ventilation, you will want a functional cupola for your building.

When you purchase a cupola with a building, it will ship with roofing and flashing to match your building. Or if purchasing separately, you can configure your cupola for the perfect look.

Decorative Cupolas

Decorative cupolas sit on top of your building's roof, but are separate from the building's interior. They are a great way to add visual interest to your cottage, shed, garage, or barn without changing the underlying structure.

Functional Cupolas

Functional cupolas are connected to the interior of your building. Use them to make your building feel more spacious, to enhance the natural light, or if you own a Sugar Shack, to ventilate steam as you make maple syrup.

If you order a sugar shack kit the rough opening for an integrated cupola will be framed out in the building instructions.

Cupolas for Ventilation

Did you know cupolas can be use to let off a little steam? For people who produce maple syrup the old fashioned way in a Sugar Shack, cupolas can be used to ventilate the steam that evaporates as maple sap is boiled.

If you are choosing a cupola for a Sugar Shack, you’ll need a Functional Cupola.
Choose either hinged pine vents or hinged transom windows, which open with a manual closure system.

CUPOLA DELIVERY & ASSEMBLY

Cupolas can be added to almost any Jamaica Cottage Shop Kit or Fully Assembled item.

Adding A Cupola to a Pre-Cut Kit

Add a Cupola to your Pre-Cut Kit Order for your cupola to ship with your kit for no additional charge.

Decorative Cupolas are designed to be attached to almost any Jamaica Cottage Shop building.

Functional Cupolas are designed to be built into a rough opening in the roof. Although Sugar Shacks are the only Jamaica Cottage Shop design that come with this opening in the original design, it’s possible to tweak your kit and frame out the rough opening during your build. This modification requires a little carpentry know-how or hiring a contractor. Call our tech support team at 802-531-3454 to learn what is involved with a modification like this.

Adding A Cupola to a
Fully Assembled PRoject

Add a Cupola to your Fully Assembled Order for your cupola to ship with your building for no additional charge.

Decorative Cupolas can be installed on most Fully Assembled projects on delivery by the driver for an installation fee of $300.

Functional Cupolas can also be installed on delivery. In order for this to happen, your building will need the proper rough opening in the roof to accommodate the 4×8 Cupola. Sugar Shacks come with this opening, but if you’re ordering any other design call our sales team to add this rough opening before your order is signed and put into production.  Installation fees for Functional Cupolas are $300, for Sugar Shacks, this fee is waived.

ORDERING A STAND-ALONE CUPOLA

Although our cupolas were designed to be ordered in conjunction with a Jamaica Cottage Shop Pre-Cut Kit or Fully Assembled building, it’s possible to add these cupolas to other projects and buildings as well.

The end panels are sent square to accommodate a variety of roof pitches (for this flexibility, some cutting on-site is required).

When ordering a cupola as a stand-alone item, there is a shipping fee. The cost for shipping a Ready-to-Assemble Cupola fluctuates drastically. Call the Sales team at 802-297-3760 to get a custom quote for your Cupola delivery or avoid shipping costs all together by picking up your Cupola at our shop here in South Londonderry, Vermont.
