This compact one car barn style garage design is optimal for those who need a space to protect a smaller vehicle or riding lawnmowers and tractors along with all your other stuff. This simple design is meant to be put together using rough cut lumber (true-dimensional) with pine siding and topped with a metal roof. We recommend installing an overhead garage door and a single door for easy entry and convenience. When buying these step-by-step post and beam garage barn building plans there is a lot of room for customization too, so you can buy other styles of siding and roofing to install on your garage. Doing so will help your post and beam garage blend in with its surroundings or matches up to existing buildings on your property. Initially we offered this design as a 12×20 prefab garage kit, then expanded to other sizes, including the 12×24 Garage, 14×24 Garage and 14×30 Garage.
Learn how to build a 1 bay timber garage with these easy-to-follow do it yourself building instructions. Each set includes a handy dandy exploded view that is color coded so you can see how all the pieces are put together. This diagram is also great for those who are not so keen on reading directions or have more experience in building. A color-coded cut list explains how each piece of material should be cut and corresponds to the exploded view. The included rafter templates can be traced onto the 2×6 lumber designated for roofing, so you get the correct cuts each time. The material list for building a garage may be taken to a local lumber mill to obtain lumber and hardware for building. For those that need more help with building detailed written instructions and illustrated drawings show each step of the process make up the bulk of our DIY detached garage plans.
These single car garage plans may also be purchased if you plan on buying a free standing garage kit or assembled building in the future. Some people like to have them in advance so they can fully understand what they are getting into and plan for construction. Others might find these instructions to be helpful in obtaining a permit.
