The Emperor Cottage makes the ideal solution for those dreaming of a comfortable backyard retreat or hunting cabin. Why not both? Turn your four-seasoned retreat into a combined guest house and workspace for hobbies such as painting or pottery. Designed with comfort fit for a king while still on a modest budget, this surprisingly spacious lodge includes a queen size bedroom complete with a bathroom and shower, separated by a full wall with a sliding door from the living area, equipped with a kitchenette and an attractive live-edge counter wood slab and stainless-steel kitchen sink. With the addition of a heat source, this fully insulated design becomes a usable space all year long.
Here at Jamaica Cottage Shop, we use rugged post and beam techniques that have been passed down through the centuries to construct sturdy and picturesque shelters, reminiscent of old New England. We use rough-cut full dimension hemlock for our framing and eastern white pine for everything else (except floors). This design incorporates fiberglass and foam foil board insulation covered by pine shiplap sheathing while still exposing the post and beam structure providing the classic rustic aesthetic. A selection of popular addons can be included for additional comfort and style, such as a porch with a sitting area, or a decorative cupola for some extra height.
Our 12×16 Emperor Cottage plans are easy-to-follow and step-by-step, giving you the option to build it yourself as a family project or hire someone else to do it, taking all the hard work out for you! Starting with foundation recommendations (concrete pour optional), and building from the floor up, the plans come complete with a full bill of materials and a cut list for each piece, so that you can acquire all necessary building materials at your local lumberyard. One rule of thumb we have here is that every building we turn out is unique—in some ways reflecting the personalities of the craftsmen who built them. The same is true for your building!
