This teeny, tiny post and beam cottage design is a one room living solution. The 8×10 footprint (80 square feet), is just enough room for a bed, dresser, wardrobe, and a chair. Add shelving, hooks, and racks for storing your camping gear and luggage. This building is great if you want a comfy spot in the woods to rest that is much more resilient than a tent. Campgrounds or homesteads with communal kitchens and bathroom find these little bunk cottages to be comfortable places for their visitors to have privacy and to sleep. Some use this space as a hunting cabin, playhouse, or backyard office.
These tiny cottage plans are offered in three different sets. The shell plans will teach you how to build an uninsulated cabin. This version is perfect if you plan on using the building as a summer camp or for cold storage. Next, we have the three-season plans which show you how to insulate the floor and add vapor barrier to the walls and roof (along with rough cut pine roof sheathing). Three-season buildings are typically used for spring, summer and fall seasons as seasonal vacation residences. Sometimes people build a three-season building if they plan on insulating the building later but want to wait due to budget or time constraints. Finally, we have the four season Bunkie plans. With this set you will have instructions that teach you how to fully insulate the building and install double pane windows and an insulated door. If you want to be comfortable in your cabin year-round this option is recommended.
When building from these do-it-yourself cottage-style shed plans, it is strongly recommended to purchase rough cut lumber for building. This type of lumber is true dimensional where conventional lumber is not. Check with local lumber mills for this type of wood. If you have trouble finding rough sawn lumber at an affordable price consider purchasing a kit from us. Our pre-cut Bunkie kits will save you time and money.
