All About The Economy Barn

Our simple, budget-friendly Economy Barn is roomy enough for all kinds of purposes. If you need an animal shelter, barnyard storage, or a workshop this post and beam barn provides space for nearly any use. Many farmers and homesteaders love utilizing this design to house their tractors, riding lawnmowers and other farming equipment. They also find it to be a wonderful home for their horses, cattle, goats, and sheep too. Depending on the chosen size you may find you have anywhere from 280′ to 420′ square feet of interior space, leaving plenty of space for interior partitions or stalls to be built in after delivery.

We keep this design simple with a rough sawn hemlock frame, pine board siding, and a silver Galvalume 29-gauge corrugated metal roof. A set of 6-foot pine double doors include a treated ramp, making it a breeze to wheel your equipment in and out.

Choose Your Size

This 14′ wide barn is available in three lengths: 20′, 24′, and 30′ long. To keep this unit affordable, we limit the customizations that may be purchased so we can pass on maximum savings to you. Because we can use overstock materials to build these barns, we only offer these fully assembled, deliverable up to 300 miles from our factory in Vermont.

If you would like this design as a Pre-Cut Kit, check out our premium Barns. Same design, but built with a painted metal roof in Evergreen, and our standard Eastern White Pine siding.

Customize

We like to keep things simple with our Economy Barns to emphasize affordability. With this design you may upgrade your metal roof color from the regular Galvalume. Clear Poly roofing material is also available if you would like to use your barn as a backyard potting station or want lots of natural light for your workspace. If you want to customize your barn even more, we suggest ordering from our standard Barns page. We also offer a variety of overhang, porch, and enclosure kits. With these add-ons you can gain more exterior space useful as shelter or as an additional storage area. These kits can be customized to match the roof color of your building too.

A Note About Economy Grade Buildings

These affordable barns are built with materials that may include cosmetic imperfections so we can pass savings on to you. Discoloration, fading, scratches, dings, and other blemishes may exist in the siding and roofing. Typically, we use overstock pine siding which might be installed vertically or horizontally. In most cases we will use pine board siding. However, sometimes we have an abundance of other types of siding (all pine) which we may use instead, at our discretion. This could include clapboard, novelty, log, shiplap, or other kinds that we have in stock at the time of your order. This selection is random and we do not take requests for siding preference with our economy grade buildings. If you don’t like surprises like this, we strongly recommend ordering a premium grade Barn, so you can have more control over your customization options.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Pre-Cut Kit? What is included in this package?

The Pre-Cut lumber package has all the framing members cut and ready for assembly. It includes siding, roofing, pre-dimensioned trim, and fastening hardware. Many designs also include windows and doors. The floor system, walls and rafters have all been cut, color-coded and part numbered. The detailed cut list coincides with the color-coded exploded view. The head scratching has been removed, the headaches of finding the correct angles and the aggravation of starting from scratch has all been simplified. The kit is geared to a do-it-yourself homeowner with beginner-to-beginner knowledge of carpentry.

Should I buy a Pre-Cut Kit or Fully Assembled Building?

We design our kits to be organized and easy to understand. If you have basic carpentry skills and are looking to save money, a kit is a great idea for you. We ship our kits  all across the continental USA and part of Canada.

If you live within our Northeast delivery area, you are able to purchase many of our buildings Fully Assembled. You’ll save time and have the peace of mind that your cottage is being built by expert craftsmen.

What is a Complete Shell and What Comes With It?

A complete shell is an uninsulated building. As a kit, it includes everything required to assemble the building including hardware, precut framing, siding and roofing as well as doors and windows. Hardware, millwork sheathing and DIY plans have been enclosed. Each piece is color coded and part numbered. The exact itemization of what is inserted can be found on the specifications tab of the website for each product page design.

What is the difference between a 3-Season and 4-Season Insulation package?

3-Season –A three-season kit prepares the building for interior finishing. It includes the complete shell plus vapor barrier, solid roof sheathing and insulated floor system. A three season building seals the structure from humidity and moisture protecting from the environment, insects and rodents.

4-Season – Best for year-round comfort. The package includes everything a 3 season does with the addition of insulated thermal pane millwork, wall and roof insulation and pine interior sheathing.
