All About The Bus Stop

The simple Bus Stop can be much more than meets the eye. Sure, the built-in bench makes it a great place for your kids to keep out of the rain and snow while waiting for the school bus. But if you take a second look, you’ll see the potential to become a mini farm stand for selling fruits and vegetables at the end of your driveway. Or add shelves and hooks for an easy access garden storage shed that has plenty of room for your landscaping essentials. Perfect for summer camps, sports fields, parks, and playgrounds, there are endless applications for this handy alcove. Or you can make it a community affair: have your neighborhood pitch in to purchase and build this Bus Stop to give the local kids somewhere to stay dry in damp weather. The small but mighty Bus Stop comes in two different sizes. Both are constructed from handsome and sturdy hemlock and pine lumber, which will stand the elements and the test of time. Handmade at our factory in Londonderry, VT, we take pride in making this structure with the highest quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Choose Your Size & Type

We offer the Bus Stop in two different sizes: 4’x4′ and 4’x6′. Consider how many people you think will use this structure at once when making your choice. We highly recommend our 4’x6′ model for use as a place to wait out the rain. You never know when your kids might have a friend with them that will need a seat on the bench.

We offer the Bus Stop as a complete shell kit with do-it-yourself instructions. If you happen to be within 300 miles of our factory in Londonderry, Vermont, we can also ship this lovely little alcove to you fully assembled.

The Complete Shell – With this package you get everything needed to set up an uninsulated building. A floor system, wall and roof framing, siding, a metal roof, and a pine bench come with this package.

Customize

Each of our buildings comes with default options that match our specifications. However, if you want to personalize your purchase, we have made that process a breeze. As you go through each step, you’ll be able to customize your shed. Oodles of options exist to style your Bus Stop just the way you’d like. We offer many all-natural pine and cedar siding options. Roofing choices include corrugated metal, Western Red Cedar shingles or shakes, and architectural asphalt shingles. Strengthen Our buildings are built to withstand harsh New England weather but offer options to increase its durability. This building defaults to joists and rafters placed at 24” on center, but you could upgrade to 16” on center to increase weight ratings, which may be useful if you plan to use this for storing heavy objects. If your building site is placed in a damp area you might also consider opting for treated skids, or a completely treated floor system to enhance weatherproofing.

• Add-Ons – Steel Shed Anchors are wrapped around your skids, then the triangular head is hammered into the ground. They provide some additional stability, which is great if you are building in a windy area. Termite Shields are placed on your foundation’s concrete blocks or piers before you start building. They deter termites from crawling on your building.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Pre-Cut Kit? What is included in this package?

The Pre-Cut lumber package has all the framing members cut and ready for assembly. It includes siding, roofing, pre-dimensioned trim, and fastening hardware. Many designs also include windows and doors. The floor system, walls and rafters have all been cut, color-coded and part numbered. The detailed cut list coincides with the color-coded exploded view. The head scratching has been removed, the headaches of finding the correct angles and the aggravation of starting from scratch has all been simplified. The kit is geared to a do-it-yourself homeowner with beginner-to-beginner knowledge of carpentry.

Should I buy a Pre-Cut Kit or Fully Assembled Building?

We design our kits to be organized and easy to understand. If you have basic carpentry skills and are looking to save money, a kit is a great idea for you. We ship our kits  all across the continental USA and part of Canada.

If you live within our Northeast delivery area, you are able to purchase many of our buildings Fully Assembled. You’ll save time and have the peace of mind that your cottage is being built by expert craftsmen.

What is a Complete Shell and What Comes With It?

A complete shell is an uninsulated building. As a kit, it includes everything required to assemble the building including hardware, precut framing, siding and roofing as well as doors and windows. Hardware, millwork sheathing and DIY plans have been enclosed. Each piece is color coded and part numbered. The exact itemization of what is inserted can be found on the specifications tab of the website for each product page design.

What is the difference between a 3-Season and 4-Season Insulation package?

3-Season –A three-season kit prepares the building for interior finishing. It includes the complete shell plus vapor barrier, solid roof sheathing and insulated floor system. A three season building seals the structure from humidity and moisture protecting from the environment, insects and rodents.

4-Season – Best for year-round comfort. The package includes everything a 3 season does with the addition of insulated thermal pane millwork, wall and roof insulation and pine interior sheathing.
